Dorothy Whitver, 1952 – 2024

Funeral services will be held January 23 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson for Dorothy Jean Whitver, 72, of Jefferson.

Father Bill Scheiber will officiate. Interment will be at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Jefferson.

Dorothy gained her angel wings sleeping peacefully at home on January 16, 2024.

Dorothy Jean was born January 17, 1952, to Francis and Doris Rutherford. She was one of six siblings that ran around Churdan causing havoc, until she graduated high school in 1970.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Tom Whitver, on April 23, 1981, in Jefferson. They had their first child, Allison, in 1985 and later welcomed their son, Jason, in 1988.

It takes a special kind of person to take care of others and Dorothy was just that. She dedicated her life to being a CNA and worked in nursing homes, long term care units, and even helped take care of patients in their home.

When Dorothy did make time for herself, she enjoyed getting a good mani pedi, baking, sewing, and crafting. She loved making personalized gifts such as quilts, table quilts, bags, and diamond art for friends and family. Dorothy always looked forward to shopping trips with her besties, Dorena and Arlene, and on Black Friday with her sisters and daughter. She loved spoiling her granddog and was eager to share pictures of him to anyone that would oblige.

Dorothy became a cancer survivor on June 2, 2020. Although it ultimately took her from those who love her, she gave it hell. She was determined not to let it take away her sass and tenacity.

She is survived by her husband Tom; children Allison and Jason; her granddog Louie; siblings Anna Hemmerling, Linda (Steve) Ringgenberg, and Joyce, Larry, and Kenneth (Barb) Rutherford; bonus siblings Gary (Laura), Dick (Jan), Brian (Jodi), Ed (Deb) Whitver, and Susie (Dave) Weiss; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Dorothy was welcomed into heaven by her parents Francis and Doris; her in-laws Bob and Vicki Whitver; and her sister-in-law Laura “Ben” Rutherford.

The family is assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson, 515-386-2171.
